Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on recently

A man who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two children aged nine and 10.

The accused was detained after eight children and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on recently.

Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.

The man played a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.

She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his family member had worries about the activities, with valid cause.

"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the police about his suspicions.

She stated the man proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the police once more.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
